Going through the house after my mom died was a type of hell I wouldn't wish on anyone. Not because of all the stuff because she had pared it down. Just not being able to talk about each precious thing with her. It's good to do all that downsizing when they're still alive. I am pretty envious of your ability to live in France these days.

Three months in Switzerland and France! How wonderful for you after such a grim year. That alpine air will taste pristine after Colorado.

My grandmother has been gone since 2013 but she moved from her house after a fall in 2008 and every now and then I still get a pang of "I wonder where such and such item is" and realize it is long gone or my uncle took it without anyone knowing. Those little things come back to haunt, even though you know you really don't want or need them.

Your ability to have pared down your go-bag items reminded me of earlier this week when I had an issue with my website and GoDaddy. For a brief few hours I thought about if I really cared if everything on my blog for nearly 20 years would be gone. If you'd asked me 5 years ago I would have cared a lot. Today? With the exception of a few things, I did not really care. I was ready to let it go.

Enjoy your time in France and Switzerland!

I got rid of so much stuff when we moved out of state 3 years ago. It was liberating, by God, just liberating. And with the exception of an O'Cedar mop, which I never imagined wouldn't be sold without the bucket, I have zero regrets. (I did have to buy the entire mop/bucket package again but at least I could upgrade to the type that keeps the dirty water separate. First world problems.)
