I too loved and lost in Alaska. Even though I got my heart broken in Alaska it was not Alaska that was responsible. I'm still in love with the land, the people, and adventure of the last frontier. I'm one of those dreamers who read "Be Brave, Be Strong" in my quest for the Great Divide. Thank you Jill for your wonderful sharing of life.
Thanks for the reflection of the process of writing a reflection of a heroes journey....:).
I prefer reading when I want to connect and immerse my mind and imagine the worded nuances contrasted against my current understanding, "seeing" thru anothers minds eye.
Videos to me come across as information mostly, in a sort of detached viewing mindset, podcasts, even one step further removed... sometimes the dialog blurrs into background noise and is forgotten.
Even though I view the carefully crafted printed word as my most influential medium, I'm not a purist and use all kinds of information methods which can lead to new horizons. I like to think of them as "tools" and use them.
As a reader of your blog back in the early days, I was so happy when your book came out. It really is an excellent read, I’m not surprised it continues to gain readership.
Bravo on your book sales, wow! 49K is remarkable & very respectable. My book, which came out in 2017, sold a little over 8,000. Yes, I think people still read! Keep at it!
This book has been one of my biggest influences, both in racing long distances and in writing about it, and I'm so pleased to hear it's still doing well.
I think I’ve read all of your books! I appreciate the frankness of your struggles, When I’m on a tough ride or hike, I often think of your difficult situations, and tell myself “just keep moving”! - Karl in Sunnyvale (I’m not John Doe, which I registered with Substack!)
Almost 50,000 books. That's awesome. And I love that one star review!
A 5 star book IMO and a title that is my mantra and inspiration on my own endurance events! X

Glad to see that you've sold nearly 50,000 copies! Look forward to reading more about how the race and community have evolved since 2009.

Be Brave is a story for those like me who love the adventure, written in Fine Prose.
