I would change Chouinard's quote: "It's not a story until something goes wrong." Or "It's not a great story until something goes wrong because I did something stupid." But your column adds a new twist: "It's not a great story until I do something stupid, even if nothing really bad happens." Glad you survived your own stupidity!

"So many bad decisions. So many great memories'. I am glad you are safe to tell the tale. I don't now how many of these type of adventures my son and daughter-in-law have had, and frankly I am glad I don't know....

Your distance so boggles my mind I, too, feel embarrassed at my pitiful outdoor achievements! And, your risk tolerance for, well, "risk," all I can say is that I hope and pray it never catches up with you. You really need to take a friend on these zany adventures, and if they can't go, pls tone it down a tad. mark from Lovely Ouray
